History of the White Blouse
While the history of the infamous white blouse is complicated and long, many feel that Coco Chanel popularized and condoned a more relaxed, yet tailored aesthetic for women beginning in the 1920s. Her jacket, white shirt and pant pairings were a welcome and chic departure from wardrobes previously ruled by corsets.
In the following decades, Hollywood idols like Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Audrey Hepburn would grace the silver screen in loose white blouses. The effortless, yet polished feel soon caught on, and the white blouse became a staple for every closet.
The modern woman can still look to the white blouse for comfort and sophistication. We are pleased to offer a variety of styles in natural fibers every season at Mildred Hoit.
