Christmas Kitch

At Mildred Hoit we love filling your holidays with cheer – from our festive gift wrap to our unexpected and delightful offerings of themed gifts.

There is plenty of folklore around the escalation in Christmas kitch and traditions, but many believe the modern traditions arose with the popularity of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” in 1843.

In 1848 drawings of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria’s Christmas trees found their way into several London magazines.

In America, Massachusetts declared Christmas a legal holiday in 1856. In 1880 Thomas Edison is said to have created the first strand of Christmas lights.

Today the tradition of Christmas kitch and décor has no limits. Be sure to stop by and see our selection of holiday gifts and unique décor items!
